The clear bandage placed on the skin after the tattoo should stay on for a MAXIMUM of 24 hours.
If your tattoo "weeps" or "leaks" under the bandage it should be removed sooner, as a puddle of fluid against your new tattoo for long duration of time is not good. You also want to make sure it is done "leaking" before you remove the first piece to clean your tattoo and replace the bandage, so, wait a minimum of 2 hours before the bandage is to be removed and reapplied. IF you do not "leak" or "weep" under the initial bandage then you do not need to change it. If/when removing the intial bandage, do so under warm running water, for both ease of removal, and a little less tenderness.
When removing it, lifting straight up rather than peeling back also helps make the removal easier.
After it is removed, wash your tattoo with warm soapy water (anti-bacterial such as dial) making sure to remove any dried blood and/or fluids from the surface of your skin. If possible, wash with warm water and then rinse it off with cold to open and then close your pores.
After washing, pat dry with a CLEAN towel or paper towel, etc.
Then allow 15 minutes or so to make sure your tattoo is completely dry before applying the second piece of bandage you were provided, as you are trying to prevent any moisture from building up between your tattoo and the bandage.
Your bandage has micro-sized holes that can permiate air, but not moisture, allowing your tattoo to get the air it needs to heal but not allowing anything else in or out.
The second piece applied can then stay on the skin for 3-7 days, depending on your comfortability.
If removed at the beginning of that time frame, use aquaphor for a day or 2 to keep your tattoo moisturized but don't over do it. Follow that up with unscented lotion after a couple of days.
If removing at the end of this time frame, going straight to unscented lotion is fine.
IF YOU EXPERINCE ANY SORT OF ALLERGIC REACTION TO THE BANDAGE PLEASE REMOVE IMMEDIATELY!
